ZTE ZMax Champ Review

When you are managing to have a low budget smartphone, ZTE products are probably your main concern. Although the price tag will not break your wallet, the specs attached to ZTE devices are able to compete with the other popular smartphones. One of them is ZTE ZMax Champ, a low budget Android smartphone with Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor and 1.5 GB of RAM. If you are constrained by the budget but expecting high specs, ZTE ZMax fits your requirement. To learn more about the specs of ZTE ZMax Champ, check this review out!

Key Specs

  • Li-Ion 3080 mAh battery

ZTE ZMax is a phablet, not just a smartphone. The size of the phone is 154.2 x 75.95 x 9.4 mm and the diagonal screen is 5.5 inch. It means that one-handed operation is tricky and a thumb is not enough to access the whole content on the screen. On the back side, there is an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and built-in speaker. While on the front side, there are LCD display, three capacitive buttons (home, back, and recent apps), front camera, earpiece, proximity and light sensor.

For low budget smartphone under $100, the screen of this phone is very exaggerated. Usually, low budget phones have a 5-inch screen, but not so with this phone. ZTE ZMax Champ sports 5.5-inch screen with HD resolution 1280 x 720 pixels. The screen is big enough and will satisfy you when watching the video, browsing the internet, or just sweeping through the menu. However, the HD resolution is stretched along 5.5 inches and ends up in sacrificing the detail but still good for daily use.

Since the price is very cheap, do not be disappointed if you only have Android 6.0 Marshmallow on ZTE ZMax Champ. There is no guarantee that this phone will get an update to the newest version of Android like Nougat or Oreo. Besides the outdated system operation, the user interface is also pretty common because of the lack of modification. It still utilizes the stock version of Android UI. However, exploring through the menu and user interface is a swift.

ZTE ZMax Champ features 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera is able to take some beautiful photograph with a decent quality of detail. It also supports autofocus, touch focus, HDR, low light mode, manual mode, and time lapse. For the video recording, the rear camera can record the video up to HD resolution. The 2-megapixel sensor camera sitting on the front side is not the champion as well, but for a low budget, the phone is above the average and adequate to handle video call.

What kind of performance do you expect from a low budget smartphone? Being able to send the message, call someone, or runs the basic Android applications are more than enough. ZTE ZMax Champ is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 210. It is a Quad-core processor with 1.3 GHz clock speed. The device is also supported by 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of onboard memory. To handle multitasking, store a lot of files, and install a lot of apps, either RAM or internal storage will buckle down.

ZTE ZMax Champ Z971VL is available for Verizon network, including 4G connection. For data communication or accessing the internet, you can use 4G LTE network and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. It provides the fast connection for browsing, downloading apps, and streaming the online video. For personal data transfer, there is Bluetooth 4.1 and micro USB. While to navigate or track your location, you can use built-in A-GPS.

The power consumption of ZTE ZMax Champ is supported by 3080 mAh battery. It gives 20 hours talk time and 10 days standby time which is surprisingly better than its competitors. Since the phone is very cheap and affordable, fast charging is something impossible coming to this phone. However, you can take this phone with you along the day without charging.

ZTE ZMax Champ is probably average on the features, but comparing to the other low budget smartphone, this phone is beyond the boundary. ZTE ZMax is actually a 5.5-inch phablet under $100. However, considering the specs, performance, features, and price, the phone is totally worth to buy and will not disappoint you.
